Guido Eekhaut is schrijver en toekomstdenker.
Hij schrijft fictie, journalistieke bijdragen en cultuurfilosofie.
Hij moedigt mensen aan actief over de toekomst te denken. Hij adviseert individuen en groepen over het schrijven van toekomstscenario\'s.
Hij publiceerde een dozijn boeken bij grote en kleine uitgeverijen in Vlaanderen en Nederland. Zijn kortere proza werd o.a. gepubliceerd in De Gids, Maatstaf, De Brakke Hond, Lava en vele andere. Verhalen verschenen en verschijnen ook in vertalingen, onder andere in de VS, Duitsland, Polen, Roemenië, Italië, China en Denemarken.
Als journalist schreef hij voor de Financieel Economische Tijd, Intermediair, De Standaard en Bizz. Hij levert tevens essays aan een aantal literaire en politieke tijdschriften, waarin hij zich voornamelijk met geopolitiek, ideologie en geschiedenis bezig houdt. In de jaren tachtig schreef hij daarenboven hoorspelen, waarvoor hij bekroond werd. Ook verscheidene van zijn verhalen werden bekroond met literaire prijzen. Eén van zijn eerste romans, De Cirkeljaren (1986), kreeg de prijs van de Stad Brussel.
In zijn romans en novellen bewandelt hij voortdurend de grensstreken tussen genres. Geïnspireerd door de betere sciencefiction van de jaren zestig en zeventig en door literaire fantastiek, schreef hij zowel experimentele psychologische romans als \'fantasieën\'. Deze laatste spelen zich voornamelijk af in de (verzonnen) stad Orsenna, die ergens buiten onze ruimte en tijd ligt, maar er wel veel raakvlakken mee heeft. De naam van deze stad is ontleend aan de Franse schrijver Julien Gracq.
Zijn eerste romans verschenen bij De Clauwaert en bij Uitgeverij Pandora. De Amsterdamse uitgeverij Bert Bakker publiceerde van hem begin jaren negentig de korte roman Eeuwig Venetië (1992) en de novellenverzameling Babel (1993), waarin ook al sporen van Orsenna te vinden zijn. Uitgeverij One Door Publications (Dublin) publiceerde drie Orsenna-boeken: Orsenna (1994), Vacuumeiland (1996) en De Vivisectie (2003). Bij dezelfde uitgeverij verscheen in 2005 de SF-thriller Zombiewereld. In het najaar van 2007 verscheen een vierde Orsenna-boek bij Uitgeverij Het Verschijnsel:Het Labyrint.
Eekhaut schrijft ook cultuurfilosofie en politieke filosofie: Op het Lijf Geschreven (Pelckmans/Klement, 2003), Waarheid en Werkelijkheid (IJzer, 2005) en De Filosofie van het Neen (2007).

Guido Eekhaut is a future thinker who also writes fiction, journalism and cultural philosophy.
He pushes people to think actively about the future. He advises individuals and groups on writing future scenario\'s.
His books have been published by small and larger publishers in Belgium and Holland. Best known for a series of books situated in (and around) the mythical city of Orsenna (three books, number four planned for 2007). Neither Sf nor fantasy, these books are situated in a geographical space and a time more or less like our own, but with historical deviations. Eekhaut has been inspired by such writers as Julien Gracq, M. John Harrison and Ursula Le Guin (and several others).
He started writing fiction in the late seventies, after reading J.G.Ballard, Philip Dick, Thomas Dish and Samuel Delany. His first books, now collector’s items, where either straightforward SF or experimental psychological novels. Already he began exploring the realms of Orsenna and its alternate histories in a series of stories and short novels, some of them published in the collection Babel (Bert Bakker Publishers, Amsterdam, 1993). Before that he had written a collection of four interlinked stories, connected with a sinking city of Venice and its all too real demons (Eeuwig Venetië. Bert Bakker, Amsterdam, 1992).
Then appeared the three Orsenna-books (all with Roelof Goudriaan’s publishing house Babel Publications): Orsenna (1994), Vacuumeiland (1996) and De Vivisectie (2003).
An SF-like thriller, Zombiewereld, was also published by Babel early 2005.
Meanwhile Eekhaut worked as a free-lance journalist for a number of newspapers and magazines (1994-2002) and still writes for the Belgian management magazine Bizz (for which he regularly travels to his most favourite city, London). He also published a number of essays on subjects as literature, geopolitics, history and philosophy. In 2003 he published a book on the sociology of the (future) body (Op het Lijf geschreven, Pelckmans Publishers, Kapellen) and more recently (in the summer of 2005) a book of political philosophy: Waarheid and Werkelijkheid, about the struggle between modernism and postmodernism (IJzer Publishers, Utrecht). His latest non-fiction book is De Filosofie van het Neen (2007) about the need for dissidence.
Eekhaut also wrote radio drama in the eighties (and was awarded several times for it). His stories have been anthologised many times, and several of them appeared in translations in the United States, Germany, Poland, Romania, Italy, China and Denmark.
